Thanks for the details, Mom. It's been so long since I heard the story I couldn't remember who ate the worms. I'll correct it in the original post.

Daughter,

The earthworm story belongs to late Grandma, Jih Hoh Chung who had very priviliged life growing up as a daughter of landlord who had vast land holding in North Korea.
Great Grandma learned to read & write "over the shoulder of her schooled brothers" because girls were not allowed to be schooled at the time. When Great Grandpa suffered stroke while inspecting rice field, guess who managed the vast land holding - Great Grandma!- who not only managed very well dealing sharecroppers and other men landlords,
she managed to increase land holding every year. Determined to give formal education for her daughters, Great grandma had to fight male teacher who refused to fill out an application of Grandma to one of two elite girls highschools in the country for Grandma.
As an only girl in the elementary school, Grandma suffered terrible teasing from boys especially when Grandma beat all of them academically. The teacher used to hold her math test in front of class and say "Boys take off your testicles!"
Grandma took lunchbox to school, but often she did not eat and threw the lunch away as she walked home to avoid mother's scolding for not eating lunch. Great Grandma worried about her thin girl, gathered worms and cut up in small pieces, seasoned, & cooked in sesame. Grandma eat them for a long time not knowing they were earth worms!

I love this simplification. I too am a science communicator. I spend my days in elementary and K-8 schools helping kids understand climate change with my program Climate Change is Elementary. Everything needs to be simple and dramatic. I need to find allies who can help me to make information simple enough to work with kids. Oh yeah, and I'm 70 years old so I am not very well schooled in computer graphics, but I'm learning.
